A paralysed man is preparing to open his own coffee shop in the heart of Costessey.

Simon Kindleysides, 38, has become well known in the city for setting himself challenges, he has managed to do many things, as well as being the first paralysed man to walk the London Marathon, writing his own book.  

The Blofield man was diagnosed with functional neurological disorder and a glioma brain tumour in 2013 leaving him paralysed from the waist down.

Now though he is opening a coffee shop in Costessey which people in the area say is "much needed."  

He said: “I have 15 years of experience in hospitality, and I missed it – but I found I wasn’t even able to get interviews because I am in a wheelchair, so I thought I would do it myself.”

Simon had opened a shop in Blofield to sell his homemade lamps but had closed it to pursue his coffee shop.  

He said: "It feels so great to take this new path, health is obviously against me, so I have been working through my bucket list, I am taking a risk, but that is what life is about."

One Cup or Two will offer a range of homemade baked goods such as cakes, scones, brownies, bacon rolls, omelettes, paninis and much more all made fresh by in-house baker Tina Smart.  

Simon is proud to also be able to cater for vegans, vegetarians and gluten free.

Though people will need to be patient as Simon plans to go it alone – mostly.  

He said: "I have a team for when I need it – but customers will have to be understanding as doing everything in a wheelchair will mean I need their patience."

The coffee shop has free Wi-Fi, but has no parking, though on-road parking is available.  

The grand opening takes place on Saturday 9am to 6pm at 53, The Street.
