A top-grossing Marvel director has returned to Avengers HQ to visit his old stomping ground.
Joe Russo revisited the University of East Anglia (UEA) campus this week, where he went to university, to speak to students and receive an honorary degree.
He is best known, alongside his brother Anthony, as one half of directing duo the Russo Brothers.
They are currently the third-highest-grossing directors worldwide having directed Avengers: Endgame, one of the highest-grossing films of all time.
The pair directed four Marvel movies in total - Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War - and worked on TV shows Arrested Development and Community.
Joe Russo attended the UEA in 1991 to study English and American studies, doing modules in theatrical scriptwriting.
He is not the only Norwich connection in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the Sainsbury Centre serving as the outside of Avengers HQ.
During his visit, Russo spoke to drama, film and creative writing students about filmmaking and received an Honorary Doctorate of Letters in recognition of his achievements.
He said: “I came to UEA a writer and I left an actor. Acting led me to directing and directing led me to where I am today.
"My experiences here at UEA changed me and made me who I am.
"I think this is an incredible place to study writing, to study creative arts and to figure out who you are and what it is that you want to do with your life.
“I greatly appreciate the university recognising me with this honorary degree but I’d also like to recognise the university and how it profoundly affected my life.”
Russo also recalled his fondest memories from his time in Norwich, including being in a play at the Waterfront and spending nights in the LCR.
He credited the UEA with "fashioning him, moulding him and giving him inspiration".
