Work costing almost £1.2m has begun on the next stage of Norwich City's The Nest complex.

The community hub, which is home to the Canaries' women's team, will see a fenced-off 3G pitch installed along with floodlights.

As well as allowing more amateur football clubs to use The Nest for training and matches, it is hoped work, which is expected to be complete by September, will allow the Community Sports Foundation (CSF) to expand its offering.

New ventures will include introductory football courses aimed at girls, walking football sessions for over-50s and Team Talk, a mental wellbeing focussed initiative.

It will also provide additional space for the charity’s disability team and the Onside project, which works with children at risk of becoming involved in violent youth crime.

Jackie Thornton, head of development at CSF, said: “Over 10,000 people visit the site every month and our current 3G pitch is at capacity.

"The additional pitch will allow us to support more teams, more players and more people."

The new pitch will also be used for other sports including running and cricket.

Opened in 2018, the site currently boasts seven pitches, residential bunk boxes, a cafe and a conference centre.
