Leading high street bank NatWest has announced the closure of one of its city branches. 

The company is set to shut its Norwich Boundary Road branch on October 31, saying that personal banking habits have shifted towards online rather than in-store.

NatWest data show counter transactions for personal customers have decreased by 60pc from January 2019 to January 2023, and the branch was used by only two personal customers on a regular basis in 2022.

The bank also said the number of customers using mobile apps increased by 49pc in this same time.

A spokesman for NatWest said: "We completely understand that online banking isn't right for everyone.

"Sometimes you want to chat things through with someone.

"We promise that you'll still be able to talk to one of our team either on the phone, by video or in one of our other branches."

The nearest NatWest branch remains in Gentleman's Walk, three miles away.

However free-to-use cash machines are located in nearby Sweet Briar Road, Mosley Street, and Aylsham Road.

The announcement arrives with the nearby HSBC bank, off Mile Cross Lane, set to close its doors on July 25.
