Chicken lovers will have a new place to eat in Norwich after a restaurant was given the green light to open in a former dessert parlour.

Cluck'd will now open in the former Mindoro site at 1 Westlegate after the ice cream specialists closed in 2019.

The Ipswich-based chain specialises in grilled chicken and promises to employ 30 to 40 members of staff at the restaurant which will become the business's first.

It will also have an outdoor seating area and fully refurbished interior with new tables and chairs and a digital menu board.

The approval comes after years of speculation over the site, with estate agents suggesting a chain with more than 100 branches was due to move in at one point.

Cluck'd will open from 11am to 11pm every day, including bank holidays.

Before opening, the restaurant plans to reduce the number of customer entrances to the site and will erect a sign promising "grilled chicken your way".

According to planning permission granted by Norwich City Council the restaurant now has three years to make the proposed changes to the site.
