New Greggs to fill HSBC bank in Mile Cross Lane in Norwich

The national chain applied in March to turn the former HSBC bank in Mile Cross Lane into one of its bakeries.

It will be the 11th Greggs in and around the city centre and comes two years after the chain opened its biggest store in Norfolk in White Lion Street.

Norwich City Council accepted the proposal for a new shopfront on Tuesday, including windows, doors and three air conditioning units.

Permission for illuminated signage was also given, as long as it is not distracting to the traffic on the busy outer ring road of the city. The car park on the site will also be retained.

The area is next to the Vulcan Road Industrial Estate and already has other food outlets, including a KFC, so there were no objections to the plans.

HSBC closed the branch last July. Greggs has been given three years to use the planning permission to convert the site.
