A care home on the outskirts of Norwich is set to close this autumn in a shock announcement.

Norse Care, who runs Springdale Residential Care Home in Brundall, will close the facility in the coming months as it has been deemed unsuitable for the needs of the people living there.

Jo Huxtable, Senior Director of Norse Care, said: "We are saddened to make this decision but want to provide the very best care for our residents, whose wellbeing is paramount in our thinking.

"Simply put, this building is no longer suitable for meeting their increasingly complex needs, and we are working with residents and their families to find a new home that can provide them with the proper support and care.

"Springdale will not close until every resident successfully moves to a new care setting that meets their needs.

"We also understand the impact this will have on our dedicated staff at Springdale.

"We are supporting them and aim to redeploy them into other care homes in our estate wherever possible."

Despite exploring other options, including investing in the property to make it more suitable for those who call it home, the care company says it has no other "possible" options.

Green councillor for the Brundall ward, Eleanor Laming, has shared her disappointment at the news.

"I am very sad to hear this," she said.

"Springdale is a care home in the heart of the community in Brundall and provides much-needed care for vulnerable residents.

"It will, I’m sure, be upsetting for many of the residents there who will be asked to move out of their home, and for the staff too."

She also raised concerns that Norfolk was losing a care home as the need for them continues to increase.

"Communities in and around Norwich need more residential provision for older people, not less, so this is a loss to the district," she said.

"We need to ensure that sufficient provision is made for the future, taking into account that the population in many parts of Norfolk is getting older on average.

"The new housing developments being built in the village do not include residential care facility provision for older people.

"Brundall is a key service centre with a growing population, so I hope that alternative residential care will be provided nearby."
