People in Wroxham were warned to keep their doors and windows closed after a car crash caused a gas leak.
Police were called at 3pm on Tuesday, April 26, when a car collided with a gas main at Wroxham Social Club.
Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service told people to stay away from the Norwich Road area due to the incident which was first reported at 3.15pm today (April 26).
A police spokesperson said: "Nearby residents are asked to stay at home with their windows and doors closed.
"There aren’t any current concerns that homes will need to be evacuated."
Norwich Road was closed for several hours following the incident.
The road was closed at its junctions with The Avenue and Church Lane at one end, and the junction with Station Road at the other.
Gas engineers arrived quickly at the scene to stop the leak.
A spokesman for Cadent, East Anglia’s gas emergency service, said: “This was a great response by the emergency services, including our team, in making sure everyone was kept safe.
"Our engineers were on site quickly and had the gas equipment made safe in a short space of time.
“This means the leak is stopped and gas remains on – there is no interruption to supply in the local area.
"It emphasises the importance of acting fast should you ever smell gas, suspect carbon monoxide or notice damage to any gas pipes. If this ever happens, ring the national gas emergency service on 0800 111 999 immediately, day or night.”
Bus services were affected due to the closure.
No injuries were reported.
An employee at the nearby Jet garage said that several emergency services vehicles were seen heading to the incident and that traffic had begun moving very slowly "nose to tail" by 5pm.
Heavy traffic was reported between Wroxham and Coltishall, with delays of 30 minutes experienced.
In a tweet, Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service said: "We are currently dealing with an incident in Wroxham, in the vicinity of Norwich Road.
"We would ask local residents to please stay away from the scene and to keep doors and windows shut."
By 6pm locals were told by Norfolk Fire Service they could reopen windows and doors and that the situation had been resolved.
Police confirmed the road had reopened by 7.30pm and that the gas leak had been successfully capped.
