The team behind a Norwich pub have said they will step back from the business in January after four years.

The pub, on Leicester Street in the golden triangle, posted on Facebook on Wednesday night to say their tenancy would end in January.

'We have spent the last four years developing the site and investing a substantial amount of time, money and effort and with your support, we have grown the trade into the highest turnover the site has experienced,' they said.

But they said talks for a new 20-year lease with their landlords had broken down.

They said that, 'with regret', the current ownership and management team would hand back the site at the end of the tenancy.

'We will continue to offer the same fantastic products and high level of service right up until the last day of our tenure and all current and any future bookings will be delivered to the same high standard,' the post said.

They said they would welcome interest from parties keen to take on the York, to deliver a smooth transition and see 'as little impact on the community as possible'.

'We look forward to spending our last three months with as many of you as possible, so if you have enjoyed one of our many big events over the summer or some of our chef's delicious food pop in and support the staff that have worked tirelessly to make this summer and the last four years so special,' the message, signed off from the York team, said.

It comes just days after the Garden House, on Pembroke Road, announced it would close on Sunday, October 14 after owner Enterprise Inns said they would not renew a lease with the current landlord.

It will be taken over by Craft Union Pub Company.
