A Norwich charity that helps disadvantaged families in the city enjoy a Christmas meal has appealed for help with their annual collection.

Love Norwich gives out hampers to the most vulnerable families in the area, and aims to give them a day to enjoy at the end of a tough year.

Project manager Gemma Neill said: 'We try to include everything a family of four needs for Christmas dinner, and a few extra little treats.

'We add a voucher for perishable items and wrap it all up in a hamper to make it look like a present.'

The charity works with agencies to identify the people most in need at Christmas, including refugees, families being helped by social services, and people living in hostels.

'We want to support the existing charities that Norwich has,' said Mrs Neill, 32.

'We deliver the hampers to agencies working with families with very complex needs. Christmas should be a great time, but it can also be a stress and a burden.

'We deliver them at the start of December, so hopefully we are lifting that stress and worry and preventing difficult financial situations.'

The charity has posted a shopping list on its website so anyone can make donations for the hampers at The Space on Roundtree Way until November 30. Love Norwich are also keen to hear from businesses who may be able to help with a financial donation, or make a hamper.

'Local businesses have been brilliant,' said Mrs Neill.

'If they would like to make up a hamper themselves rather than sending Christmas cards round the office that would be amazing.'
