The family of a Norwich City supporter who died last month are asking other fans to applaud in his memory during Saturday's game against Middlesbrough.

Darren Rawthorn died on October 12 in Cambridge at the age of 38.

He was a lifelong Canaries fan - one of the last things he did was watch Norwich beat Bristol City 3-2 at Carrow Road on Wednesday, September 14.

He also represented Wisbech St Mary FC for 25 years, moving from youth to adult football.

Darren's family is now asking fans to help them celebrate his life during the Championship match between City and Middlesbrough on Saturday, November 12 (pm kick-off).

During the 38th minute, chosen to commemorate his age, fans from both sides are being asked to clap for Darren for a minute.

Fans are spreading the message on social media to get the word out.

Adam Rawthorn, posting in the Norwich City FC Fan Club group on Facebook, said: "Unfortunately on October 12 my cousin Darren Rawthorn died aged 38, as a result of being hit by a car on the A47 whilst on his way back from the Norwich vs Bristol City home game on September 14.

"He spent the last four weeks of his life in NCCU in Addenbrooke's Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

"We have his funeral tomorrow [Wednesday, November 11]. He was a massive Norwich fan all his life and I'm happy knowing the last thing he did before the accident was to get to see a Norwich win.

"One of his best mates is a Middlesbrough fan who, as I'm sure you all know, we play this weekend and we've arranged for us all to get to the game.

"His mate along with half his mates will be with the Middlesbrough fans and the other half of us will be with you and we thought it would be a really great thing if on the 38th minute we could get a minute's applause going for Darren.

"Understand if this isn't possible but wanted to post on here to see if we could potentially try. Thanks all OTBC."
