Parents are being asked to park considerately around an NR3 school and nursery after concerns for children's safety.

Julie Brociek-Coulton, Labour city and county councillor for the Sewell, has met with David Day, the headteacher of Sewell Park Academy and the manager of the nearby Chestnut Nursery School.

The meeting was joined by police officers, highways officers and homeowners after folk in St Clements Hill raised worries over the state of parking in the area.

Mrs Brociek-Coulton said parents of teenagers at the academy and children at the nursery had been communicated to about the issue after the meeting.

She said: "We need parents to be made more aware of how they park to pick up their children from the school and nursery.

"It is about the safety of people living around there and the children. We are asking for people to park sensibly."

The councillor added that homeowners understood that parking would take place around the school and nursery but were sometimes blocked in.

"Homeowners should not be subject to people parking across their driveway," she said.

The city and county councillor added highways officers were considering the option of H bars being painted across three or four driveways in St Clements Hill, which would have to be paid for by the homeowners.

These are not confirmed but if they are painted on the road people who park on them would be fined.

Mrs Brociek-Coulton said Norfolk Police is also going to monitor speeding around Waterloo Road and St Clements Hill because she added some of the driving in the 20mph area was horrendous.

She raised concerns about the speed of the traffic because many schoolchildren from Sewell Park Academy walked along St Clements Hill.

Previously, a spokeswoman for Sewell Park Academy said Mr Day went to the meeting as a supportive neighbour of the community adding: "It is our belief a lot of the issue is to do with the nursery. Hopefully something can be resolved."

They were approached for comment after the discussion, along with Chestnut Nursery Schools, which has sites across the country.
