A town on the outskirts of Norwich is set to make waves with its festive lights switch-on, which will even see Father Christmas arrive by boat.

The Thorpe St Andrew event, organised by the town council, will take place on River Green in Yarmouth Road on Sunday, November 27 from 4pm until 7pm, with the road reopening at 8pm.

It is free to attend and the lights will be switched on by broadcaster Iain Dale at 5pm, with a dazzling fireworks display planned for 6.30pm.

There will be lots to do throughout the event with more 20 local craft stalls and street food vendors, with the latter including Churros and Chorizo, East Coast Pizza Company and The Chocolate Bar Baker.

Norwich Evening News: Chris Ball launched East Coast Pizza Company a year ago and it has gone very well.

There will also be a funfair, live entertainment and Father Christmas will arrive by boat before heading to the grotto in the parish church, which children can visit for free and get a small gift.

Councillor Jonathan Emsell said: "We are delighted to bring back this traditional event to the community and bring people together for the beginning of Christmas in Thorpe after years of enforced breaks due to Covid."
