An artist has opened a workshop on Norwich market where she creates upcycled jewellery from items like spark plugs.

Katerina Moustaki, who has worked in the industry for more than two decades, set up shop last month at the Gaol Hill side of the site, where she creates beautiful bespoke pieces.

"I feel really inspired being here," she said.

"It is such a creative atmosphere full of colour and life and it is great to be amongst the buzz of the market."

The 39-year-old studied fashion design at university and gained experience in silversmithing before then pursuing jewellery design as a career.

Originally from Greece, she has since made her home in Norwich and decided she wanted to go it alone and open her own workshop.

She added: "I love the market and I'm really enjoying being here.

"I decided I wanted to work for myself and have my own space to be creative and sell my work so this stall seemed like a great opportunity."

At her stall, visitors can find a range of unique and detailed pieces, with some made from unusual items such as spark plugs.

"I really enjoy making something beautiful out of materials that you wouldn't expect," she said, adding: "To give new life to something that may have otherwise gone to waste is something I love and it is really fun to be creative with it.

"All the jewellery is made by myself here on the market and I work with materials like silver, brass, stone and wood.

"I particularly love exploring a sculpted style of jewellery, using clay casts - each piece is different."

Prices range from £16 up to about £70 and often take inspiration from the natural world, such as a collection of bird-inspired earrings and necklaces.

Passers-by can watch the artist at work at her bench, delicately assembling her handmade, one-of-a-kind creations.

Upcycle Workshop is open Tuesday to Saturday between 10am and 3pm.

Ms Moustaki's jewellery can also be found at her online shop at upcycleworkshop.uk.
