Concerns have been raised over a takeaway's plans to open from 11am until 4am every morning in a city suburb.

Papa Johns in Colman Road has lodged the plans to extend its current hours, of 11am until 11pm.

However, Juddith Lubbock, Liberal Democrat city councillor for Eaton, has warned that the longer hours will create noise and smell disturbance.

She is also concerned other takeaways in the area could follow suit if the plans are approved.

Norwich Evening News:

She said: "We haven't had many worries with the takeaways in the area. But if this goes ahead I've had quite a few residents sharing their worries with me.

"People have coped with the takeaways in that parade of shops but what I worry about is if this goes ahead others will start to follow suit.

"It will be problematic with significant disruption from the noise and smell at a time of the day when everything is quiet and most people are in bed."

The application submitted to Norwich City Council said the pizza chain wanted to offer delivery services from the back door of the building from 11pm onwards.

Applicant Manzoor Hussain said in the document: "We are looking to extend our delivery services and looking to offer food delivery services using our own drivers using the back door.

Norwich Evening News:

"This will be an extra five hours of trade each day, seven days a week."

The application promises the extended opening hours will not involve any noise or music in the premises.

A Papa Johns spokeswoman said: "Papa Johns exists to serve the community, and we do so with respect and consideration for all.

"We are seeing increased demand for pizza, and extended hours would help us to meet our community’s needs with that same respect and consideration."

It comes after one of the street's takeaways, Lucky Wok, went up for sale along with an adjoining Asian supermarket named Oriental Market.
