These are nine of the best restaurants in Norwich as recommended by you, our readers.
1. The Waffle House
Where: 39 St Giles St, Norwich NR2 1JN
It comes as no surprise that one of Norwich's longest-standing and most beloved restaurants tops the list. The Waffle House has been serving its signature Belgian-style waffles since 1978, with a large selection of sweet and savoury toppings and seasonally-inspired specials perfect for any occasion.
2. Shiki Japanese Restaurant
Where: 6 Tombland, Norwich NR3 1HE
Situated in historic Tombland, Shiki offers a whole lot more than just a great view of the Cathedral. In fact, Shiki's authentic Japanese menu will have you feeling closer to Tokyo than Tombland. Take your pick between lunch, 12pm-2pm, or dinner, 5.30pm-10.00pm, every Monday to Saturday.
3. Döner by Tante Anne
Where: 16 Wensum St, Norwich NR3 1HY
Open since only July 2021, Norwich vegan kebab joint Döner blew the competition away in the British Kebab Awards, without even a hint of meat on the menu. In addition to the star attraction, 'Doner Komplett Mit Alles' (Doner complete with everything), the restaurant offers gyros, soups, salads and much more.
4. Blue Joanna
Where: 103 Unthank Rd, Norwich NR2 2PE
If Asian-style street food takes your fancy, pop along to Blue Joanna in Norwich's unique Golden Triangle to try dishes such as Kung pao chicken wings and their Korean Blue Taco, as well as a host of cocktails and wines. They even have a blue piano.
5. XO Kitchen
Where: 13-15 St Georges St, Norwich NR3 1AB
Formerly nestled in the heart of The Artichoke pub, XO Kitchen's meteoric rise in popularity led them to open a larger venue late last year to further offer their 'face-slapping flavours', beloved by critics and locals alike. The Asian-fusion-inspired cuisine has continued to captivate the city since its inception, so be warned, book well ahead!
6. Jorge's
Where: 2-3 Orford Yd, Red Lion St, Norwich NR1 3TB
Readers voted Jorge's as one of their favourite restaurants and it's easy to see why. Tucked away from the hubbub of Red Lion Street, Jorge's Orford Yard location is as cosy as it is popular. Mediterranean and Portuguese tapas are the restaurant's speciality and with their open kitchen and outdoor courtyard there is little reason not to go.
7. Benedicts
Where: 9 St Benedicts St, Norwich NR2 4PE
With its own private dining room overlooking St Gregory's Green and vibrant St Benedicts Street, Benedicts have captured diners' hearts as a quiet and intimate space to enjoy an evening. Recommended for its 'exquisite' food, we advise you to book as soon as possible to secure a reservation.
8. Dhaba at Fifteen
Where: 15 Magdalen St, Norwich NR3 1LE
With an expansive menu featuring all the best of Indian cuisine, Dhaba at Fifteen is sure to have something for everyone. At Fifteen is not the only place to enjoy Dhaba, with contact-free delivery available through their website, phone number or Deliveroo from 4.30pm.
9. Brix and Bones
Where: 68-72 London St, Norwich NR2 1JT
Recently featured in Good Food Guide's '14 under-the-radar eateries in the UK for 2023', Brix and Bones deserve a place on this list as a very promising up-and-comer. Norwich locals seem to agree: 'I can honestly say that was the best steak I’ve ever had'.
