Steve Lamacq is to present his popular BBC 6 Music radio show from Norwich next month in celebration of the UK's best independent venues.
Norwich Arts Centre will host the programme which will see Scottish indie band Young Fathers play their first gig in four years and city-based group Let's Eat Grandma take listeners on a tour of the area.
The show is touring venues across the country as part of Independent Venue Week, which aims to encourage gig-goers to back their local performance spaces, and will stop off in the Fine City on Wednesday, February 1.
During the programme, Lamacq will also be joined by BBC Radio Norfolk Introducing presenter Kitty Perrin to talk about Norwich's live music scene.
Lamacq said he had picked some of his favourite small venues for the tour as he visits seven venues in seven days.
He said: “Independent Venue Week has always played a vital role in helping grassroots venues at a financially perilous time of year.
"But it’s even more essential now, as venues try and bounce back from Covid lockdowns and cope with the pressures of the current cost of living situation.
"But it’s also a great time to get out and see some new and emerging artists before they hit the summer festival stages. There’s a terrific variety of music on offer.
“We’ve also lined up some of our own favourite new and established acts for a week of gigs in small independent venues around the country and will be touring the UK, presenting the BBC Radio 6 Music radio show from a different location every day.”
Samantha Moy, head of BBC Radio 6 Music, added many of the station's most-played artists started in small venues such as Norwich Arts Centre and said supporting them had "never been so important".
She said: "I’m incredibly proud that Lammo is on the road for a week, across the UK, shining a light on such an integral part of our music eco-system.”
The show will also see clips from the previous night's DJ Grove performance at the Hare and Hounds in Bristol played, while listeners will be provided with gig guides to other Independent Venue Week concerts happening in the UK across the week.
