Staff at a city music venue say they are "chuffed" to be hosting a BBC radio show next month after a tough few years for the live music industry.

Norwich Arts Centre in St Benedicts Street will host Steve Lamacq's 6 Music show on Wednesday, February 1, with Scottish indie band Young Fathers playing their first gig in four years.

City-based group Let's Eat Grandma will also join Lamacq taking him on a tour of Norwich before the well-known DJ sits down with BBC Radio Norfolk Introducing presenter Kitty Perrin to discuss the local music scene.

And the venue's director, Pasco Q Kevlin, is over the moon to have national recognition.

Norwich Evening News:

He said: "This is what we do, it's more than a job for each of us working on the NAC team.

"So getting back to live performance seven days a week felt like finally our lives were getting back on track.

"It is a difficult time for each and every single one of us, not just venues.

Norwich Evening News:

"The BBC are an important institution, they've been championing culture for a little over 100 years.

"We were all really chuffed when we heard they were coming to Norwich.

"It's one of those moments where you take a breath and go, yes."

Lamacq personally chose some of his favourite independent venues for the tour of seven locations in seven days as part of Independent Venue Week which aims to get gig-goers to support their local venues.

Norwich Evening News:

Mr Kevlin added: "It's good for us, for the city and their listeners.

"I'm looking forward to being in the audience and dad dancing to one of Britain's finest bands.

"Now we are going to keep going, doing what we do and holding our space in this wonderful city."

Listeners will also be provided with gig guides to other Independent Venue Week concerts happening in the UK across the week including some in the Fine City.
