Victims of crime could have to report emergencies at a temporary city centre base during the refurbishment of a historic police station.
Norfolk Police has applied to Norwich City Council for temporary planning permission to build a public enquiry office (PEO) next to Bethel Street Police Station.
If approved, it would be in Bethel Street for three years "to aid the refurbishment of Norwich City Police station" but the planning submission reiterated it was important the office was as close to the station as possible.
The application says: "Bethel Street PEO has the highest footfall in the county.
"Bethel Street PEO captures a broad range of demand that would otherwise have to be picked up by response officers or our central control room through calls on 101.
"Given the length of the refurbishment, the absence of a PEO in the city would have a cumulative and detrimental impact on police services."
Norfolk Police's plans to renovate the Grade II-listed building were approved in October 2022.
