One of the last remaining standalone academies in Norfolk could be set to join trust after entering talks over a merger.

Taverham High School is one of just two secondary schools in the county to have academised without becoming attached to a trust.

However, the school has now started a consultation which could see it join the Enrich Learning Trust.

In a letter to parents, headteacher Roger Harris wrote: "There are a number of challenges that come with this level of independence and, looking to the future, these challenges are only going to increase.

"Since September, trustees have been considering the options for joining a multi-academy trust and, as such, we have been doing our research and meeting with potential groups."

Norwich Evening News: Dr Roger Harris has been appointed new headteacher of Taverham High School.

Dr Harris said the school was looking to joint a trust that was locally-based and large enough to be financially secure - while also providing professional development opportunities for staff.

The letter, which is co-signed by chair of trustees Lauren Griffith, adds that Enrich had met this criteria.

The Wymondham-based trust currently consists of seven schools - including fellow secondaries Dereham Neatherd High, Long Stratton High, North Walsham High, and Wymondham High Academy.

The school has now entered a consultation period, during which parents and carers can voice their opinions on whether the move should go ahead.

The letter adds: "The trustees of Taverham High School believe that this merger is in the best interest of our students and staff for the continued success of the school."

Russell Boulton, chief executive of Enrich, said: "Enrich Learning Trust is delighted to have entered a consultation phase with Taverham High School as the school and its community consider the next stage in its journey, potentially moving from being a single academy trust to becoming part of a multi-academy trust.

"Both organisations share the same pupil and staff-centred values and are excited to be consulting with their communities to ensure that the best decision can be made."

As part of the consultation, parents and carers are being given the opportunity to question representatives from Enrich at the school from 5.30pm on Tuesday.
