All sorts of weird and wonderful gender reveals have appeared on social media in recent years and now a Norwich burger bar is offering its own method.
The Street Food Box in Castle Quarter is bringing a new meaning to bun in the oven to the shopping centre's new Castle Social food quarter.
Gender reveals are usually done by cutting a cake and revealing a colour to reveal the sex of their baby to family and friends, or by letting off coloured smoke or popping a balloon filled with confetti.
The Street Food Box has been open for three months and has introduced gender reveal burgers which means everyone gets the surprise followed by a tasty treat.
Restaurant director Matthew Dawkins explained: “We ordered some sample-coloured buns for an idea we had for Valentine's Day and when they came my wife picked up the pink and blue and said ‘you know what these would be perfect for?’ and then we got into action.
“We do a good range of burgers so all we needed to do was change the bun.
“The colours are extremely bright, but it doesn’t detract from the exceptional taste.”
To announce the new burgers on social media, Matthew posted: “Imagine all your family and friends holding a burger in a box, and on the count, all open together to reveal the sex of the unborn baby.”
And any party size is welcome.
“If you want a more private reveal that you can later post on social media, we can set up an Instagrammable area just for you," he continues.
“And this is something we plan to offer all the time; we haven’t seen anyone else doing it so we think it is a unique concept – and we hope it excites people.”
He also hopes by offering unusual and exciting dishes as well as some staples, more people will venture into the Castle Social.
He said: “People remember getting their Covid jab here.
“Others remember the old food court and don’t realise we are here.
“There are lots of really exceptional street food vendors, it's not run of the mill fast food and I would urge people to pay us a visit.”
