A small independent business is hoping to stock in the fine city as a way to celebrate its first birthday.
The Flower Box and Bakes began during lockdown when owner Bonnie Wordley, from Shipdham, was looking for something to occupy her mind.
The 36-year-old had experience with flower arranging so began by offering this and soon she got the relevant licences to begin making cakes and conserves.
She said: “I had previously undertaken a level three culinary course at City College Norwich, and always had a huge love for flowers and arranging.
“The lockdown gave me a chance to explore those skills and create what is now The Flower and Box Bakes.”
Bonnie’s most popular item is her lemon curd, which she believes is some of the best on the market.
It is this product that she hopes to stock in Jarrold and various farm shops in and around the city.
She said: “Someone asked me to make some lemon curd, so I did, and the response was so overwhelming, it just flew, everyone loved it.
“I spent a lot of time researching how to make the best product.
“Every single thing I put into the jar is the freshest it can be, and it isn’t mass produced which means I have the luxury of using lemon zest instead of flavouring – and that is what makes it a cut above the rest.
“So rather than being full of sugar and flavouring it is full of freshness – I think it’s lovely, but hearing it from other people always gives me such a boost.”
Bonnie hopes to bring her conserves, including her lemon curd, and a selection of cakes, flowers and bakes to the city.
She said: “Norwich seems to have lots of shops that stock independent's products, and the people of Norwich still want high quality products, despite the cost of living crisis.”
Bonnie, who works in IT as well as producing her flowers and bakes, added: “I think for now, it’s a fun way for me to unwind, and people seem to really love it, so I will continue like this – but who knows what might happen in the future.”
Bonnie can be contacted via her Facebook page.
