A Celtic superfan living in Norwich had the surprise of his life when he received a letter from the Scottish football club's manager Ange Postecoglou.

Paul Hanlon, 31, a languages student at the University of East Anglia, has never watched the Glasgow giants play live as he has cerebral palsy but now he will visit thanks to the generous invitation.

The Greek-Australian coach also sent Mr Hanlon a green and white scarf along with a club fountain pen and blanket while inviting him to either tour the 52-time Scottish champions' Parkhead stadium or watch a match.

Norwich Evening News:

Mr Hanlon is part of the UEA's Catholic Society, who wrote to the general secretary of the Celtic Supporters Association about his support.

In the letter, Postecoglou thanked him for his support.

Norwich Evening News:

He said: "We all know that Celtic fans are the finest in the world and we are very proud to have you as a supporter.

"I hope that your studies are going well and I wish you every success with your degree."

Norwich Evening News:

Mr Hanlon, from Lincolnshire, said: "I thought it was a great wee Christmas present and I really appreciate it.

"I want to give my thanks to my mates who attend Catholic mass for setting it up."

Norwich Evening News:

Mr Hanlon is studying four languages at the UEA and is already fluent in Japanese and German.

His friend Ben McFadyean, who helped write to the club, said he and the rest of the Catholic Society were looking forward to hearing about Mr Hanlon's trip.

He said: "We members and Father Andrew Eburne, who is parish priest at Our Lady of the Annunciation in Poringland, our chaplain, are always happy to see Paul.

Norwich Evening News:

"In spite of his speech impediment, which is very restrictive for him, he always sings along at mass and helps with the washing up and other chores, he is a popular student.

"Hopefully the invitation gives him a lot to look forward to for the new term."

Postecoglou took the Bhoys back to top spot in his first season in charge, reclaiming the title from rivals Rangers, and the former Australia national team boss has his team nine points clear at the summit again this season.
