Work is under way to repair the external lift at Norwich Castle, which has been out of action for more than two months.
A section of the glass casing around the lift was smashed in November, leaving a large hole which saw public access restricted.
Scaffolding was put up around the structure this week as repair work started.
The hole in the smashed glass panel can still be seen from other parts of the castle grounds and Castle Meadow.
The nature of the damage is yet to be determined but it is believed the operations team at the castle is investigating the cause.
Step-free access to the museum is still available via Farmers Avenue while the lift is closed.
It was originally hoped that it would be back to full working order by the end of November, however, due to Norwich Castle's Grade I listed status permissions for the likes of scaffolding have to be granted, pushing back the start of repairs.
Norfolk Museums Service and Norfolk County Council have been approached for comment.
