Parents of children at a Norwich school have been given a ticking off by police over "dangerous" parking.

Officers have received numerous complaints about those picking up and dropping off children near Lodge Lane Infant School in Old Catton and have increased patrols as a result.

In the latest school newsletter, school chiefs said both those living in the area and parents had become concerned for safety in the area.

Norwich Evening News:

The letter read: "It is not only our local residents who are unhappy with the way that parents are parking when dropping off and picking up their children.

"It is also our parents who are seeing the ‘near misses’ first hand and feeling very anxious for the safety of our children.

"Please remember that parking on the zig-zags outside the school is illegal.

"All parents who attend for drop off and pick up know lots of the children who attend. It would be devastating should the worst happen.

"The road humps are not only to slow people down but are also where people cross the road so if people are parked on them, there is nowhere safe to cross which makes the risk of an accident significantly higher."

It comes after similar issues just down the road at White Woman Lane School have seen parents concerned a child could be "seriously hurt", with plans to install a safety fence on grass verges outside.

Norwich Evening News:

A police spokesman said: "Recently we received concerned comments about the parking outside Lodge Lane Infant School, Old Catton.

"Beat manager PC Graham Gill has since conducted morning patrols in the location and advised drivers around the dangers of parking opposite and outside of the school.

"We will continue to monitor the situation, but encourage all parents and carers to be mindful about where they are parking to ensure the safety of children and adults going into the school."
