A 98-year-old Norwich woman has been left housebound after thieves stole her two mobility scooters in the city centre.

Jean Norris, who lives in a flat in Needham Place just off St Stephen's Square, lost one of the vehicles when thieves entered a communal garage which had been left open due to work to fix its broken door.

During the raid on Wednesday, the thieves also took four bicycles belonging to people living in other flats in the 20-apartment complex.

Norwich Evening News:

Mrs Norris thought she had kept her scooters safe by taking their keys up to her flat, but on Friday thieves struck again and took her gold scooter.

The only items which were left by thieves were a number of other people's bikes which were locked up.

Mrs Norris said: "It's unfortunate. Someone drove in to the garage and smashed the door and its mechanics so it doesn't go up and down on its own.

"They've had to leave it open while they're fixing it and repairs take time.

"First they took my big red one which was uncovered and then they obviously realised they'd left my gold one behind, because it was covered with a sheet.

"It's so jolly mean, especially to come back again and take the other one.

"I've seen the CCTV from the first theft and they just wander in, roam around and drive away nonchalantly with everything.

"This has made me feel indignant."

Norwich Evening News:

Thieves were caught on CCTV footage, which bosses at the housing complex have passed on to the police.

Mrs Norris has urged people to look out for scooters which have been put up for sale or abandoned.

Norfolk police has been contacted for comment.

It comes after a Norwich teen had her moped stolen from outside her home in an unrelated incident.
