Norfolk: Ritzies to Tiffany's, what was the best nightclub?

Nights with friends in clubs often featured sticky floors, blossoming romances, one too many drinks and a kebab on the way home.

Readers on social media have remembered some of their favourite Norfolk haunts from back in the day.

1. Hy's

Nearly 30 readers spoke of good times spent at Hy's nightclub in Norwich.

Hy's, in Tombland, was a Norwich nightlife institution for 30 years, run by businessman Hy Kurzner, who owned Boswells bar and the Pizza One, Pancakes Too.

2. Ritzy's

The former Samson and Hercules nightclub in Tombland, Norwich, has a long history of providing nighttime fun, dating back to when the building was turned into a ballroom in 1939.

The venue went on to become nightclub Ritzy’s and Fifth Avenue, hosting celebrity visits including Jason Donovan at the height of his Neighbours fame in 1989.

It was later called Central Park and Ikon.

3. Tiffany's

Many of our readers spoke of enjoying nights at Tiffany's in Great Yarmouth.

Tiffany's last night was in 2002 and through the years it was also called Intercon and Annabella.

4. Rosies 

Rosies was a nightclub in Marine Parade in Great Yarmouth. 

Many readers also remembered nights out in Great Yarmouth at 151, The Ocean Room, The Brunswick, Peggottys, Divers, and Moments.

5. Peppermint Park

Featuring a mock Tudor exterior and a dark interior, it had a decent-sized dancefloor.

As with many of the dancefloors in the city, many people had their first romantic encounter at this Norwich club.

6. The Jacquard Club

Paul Simon is pictured playing at the Jacquard Club, in Fye Bridge Street, Norwich, after many of you noted this as your favourite haunt.

7. Rick's Place

Rick’s Place in Anglia Square, which previously operated as Scamps, Destiny and Deja Vu, was open from the 1980s until 2003.

Many of you talked of fond memories at all of these clubs, but Rick's Place came out the most mentioned.

It ran many themed events and was named as a nod to Humphrey Bogart’s bar in the film Casablanca.
