From bars to fashion shops, these are the well-known businesses we have sadly lost so far this year in Norwich amid the cost of living crisis.

1. Artel, London Street

Brunch and coffee spot Artel will close this weekend after five years in London Street, with no reason given at present. 

Its original location was a tiny shop in Wensum Street with just six seats. 

Fortunately, its popular drink and draw event on Saturdays will be moving to a new space.

2. Frank's Bar, Bedford Street 

Frank's Bar, run by cousins James Wingfield and Ella Williams, shut in January after 15 years in the Norwich Lanes.

While it was still busy, increasing costs and VAT rates were cited as the main reasons.

The pair also said they had issues selling the business due to difficulties with renewing the lease.

3. Oliver's Bar, Unthank Road 

This cocktail bar in the heart of the Golden Triangle announced its permanent closure in February. 

It opened in the former home of The Amnesty Bookshop in December 2021, with friends Oliver Sanham and Oliver Holdsworth transforming the space into a cosy spot for locals.

4. The Style Show Boutique, Unthank Road

This women's fashion shop shut its doors in Unthank Road in January and held a closing-down sale.

The reasons were cited as the impact of Covid and the cost of living crisis, with the unit now empty.

5. The York, Leicester Street - NOT CLOSING BUT CURRENT OPERATORS LEAVING 

Andrew McNeil and his team will be leaving The York once new operators are found and it is due to "ongoing financial pressures".

The pub is still serving drinks from Wednesdays to Sundays and street food trucks are there at weekends and for Six Nations matches. 

Mr McNeil also runs The Edith Cavell pub in Tombland.
