Fancying a chippy tea? Our city folk scaled Norwich for the best plaices for a treat from the sea.

While most have their locals and favourites, here are the best fish and chip shops in our fine city, according to our readers.

1. Grosvenor Fish Bar

Where: 28 Lower Goat Ln, Norwich NR2 1EL

This fish bar was the most loved, resoundingly.

They were named one of the 40 finalists in the takeaway category at The National Fish and Chip Awards 2023.

They have been serving chips for the last 95 years and nowadays also serves specials and even a high sea - its own fish version of an afternoon tea, with a spacious bunker to dine-in downstairs.

2. Lucy’s Chips

Where: Units 54, 55, 60 and 61, Norwich Market

A favourite for a lunch break from work or shopping and often seen with a queue, Lucy's Chips is owned by twins Barclay and Kingston Gray. 

Lucy's Fish and Chips is famed on Norwich Market and achieved the prestigious National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF) Quality Accreditation.

3. Chish and Fips

Where: 53 Angel Road, Norwich, NR3 3HR

Chish and Fips in Angel Road launched battered cheese and tomato pizzas for £2.50 earlier this month.

It has been running for more than 80 years and was recognised as one of the best fish and chip shops in the country by the Good Food Awards in 2023.

4. Thorpe Fish Bar

Thorpe Fish Bar can be found on the outskirts of the city in Thorpe St Andrew.

It is only a short walk from Thorpe Marshes and the River Yare, making it a perfect spot to enjoy fish and chips outside.

5. The Chip Shop

Where: 26 Stafford Street, Norwich, NR2 3BB

Situated between two pubs, The Chip Shop makes for a great place to refuel after a pint.

It is popular with locals and often has people queueing down the street on a Friday and Saturday night.
