Joanna de Vincentiis, who lives in Montgomery Close, reported the danger to Norfolk County Council's highways team last Wednesday.
The repair was carried out on Friday.
Joanna said: “I was quite shocked - couldn’t believe it when I saw it had been repaired in just 48 hours.
WE'LL SORT IT: Can the Evening News' campaign help you?
“I honestly thought this was going to take weeks and so I’m thrilled and relieved that the area is safe, and no one was hurt.
“And a big thank you to Evening News for highlighting the problem and chasing up Norfolk County Council on our behalf."
Joanna also praised the neighbour who placed a guard around the hazard which she called “community spirit at its best”.
A county council spokesman said: “We rely on people reporting issues such as this that crop up between routine inspections, so we can swiftly inspect and prioritise repairs.
“The quickest way to tell us about issues is to use our online form at norfolk.gov.uk/highwayproblem."
