A new city centre mural has been unveiled and with the castle as its backdrop, it is sure to turn some heads.

Adrian Leroy has been painting graffiti for more than 20 years with his work starting with typography but now leaning more towards an illustrative style.

Most recently the 39-year-old was commissioned by Norwich City Council to paint a mural on an air monitoring station in Castle Meadow.

This comes as lots of street furniture has been painted in the city – particularly in NR3 as more street artists are given the chance to have their art on display.

Adrian said: “My inspiration comes from the natural world.

"I love working with bright colours to create positive and cheerful murals that are inspiring and that remind us of the beauty that is all around us in nature, when we take the time to look at it.”

And this mural was no different – featuring wildflowers and lungs which will have butterflies and flowers on them to symbolise a healthy environment that benefits city folks' lungs.

Norwich folk enjoy murals that spark change, as was seen in an Anglia Square mural combatting domestic abuse and in recent years schools have also been inspired by Norfolk to paint murals.

But Adrian - also known as Leroy Murals - was lucky to get the chance to paint the mural.

He said: “The council did an open call to artists to design something for the air monitoring station and I created the lung design and was lucky enough to be selected.”

The city’s new mural now takes pride of place at the foot of Norwich Castle where it stands out along the busy street.

Adrian said: “It has been fantastic, and I have had some really lovely comments and conversations with passers-by while I’ve been painting.”
