A derelict former industrial site is to become a car park for Norwich City fans.

The former May Gurney site in Trowse could hold about 700 cars starting from Sunday's Carrow Road match against Sunderland.

It comes after a number of complaints about anti-social street parking from those living near the football ground.

Those using the car park will be asked to make a small donation to charity.

It will be manned and supervised during the game and also several hours before and after.

Broadland district councillor John Overton said: "We got permission over the weekend and will be trying it for the first time at the Sunderland match.

"Anti-social parking has always been a problem for years so hopefully it will clear some of that up."

The plan comes after it was announced that a proposal for up to 670 homes for the May Gurney and Deal Ground sites could be finalised in the summer.

It has remained vacant since 2013 when May Gurney merged with Kent-based Costain in a multi-million-pound deal.
