Three they say is the magic number.

And so it proved for a packed audience at Norwich's Theatre Royal as they saw a trinity of talented actresses turn back time to tell Cher's story in one hit show.

Millie O'Connell, Danielle Steers and Debbie Kurup all starrred as different incarnations of Cherilyn Sarkisian, or Cher as she is more famously known.

Norwich Evening News:

Babe (O'Connell) captured the music icon during the 1950s and 1960s while Lady (Steers) portrayed Cher in the 1970s.

And the Grammy, Oscar, Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning star was also played by Star (Kurup) in the 1980s and 1990s.

Norwich Evening News:

However, this was no one-dimensional tribute show as past, present and future Chers' were all on stage at the same time in this Christmas Carol-type pre-Easter present of a show.

Charting Cher's seismic rise from the very start as one half of folk rock husband and wife duo Sonny and Cher, famed for their 1965 hit "I Got You Babe".

It follows her through the decades, moving into the 1970s and onto the 1990s climaxing with 1998 anthem Believe.

Norwich Evening News:

It is a tour de force of a production celebrating the life and times of one of music's biggest icons who has enjoyed something of a renaissance with her playing feisty matriarch Ruby Sheridan in Mamma Mia sequel Here We Go Again.

And with double Strictly Come Dancing champion Oti Mabuse and former Strictly judge Arlene Phillips on choreographer and director duties the dancing as well as the singing is unsurprisingly top notch.

There was not a soul sat in their seat by the time the three Chers' ended with a euphoric encore of If I Could Turn Back Time.

And how we wished they could - this is Cher-tainly a show not to be missed.

It runs until March 11, log onto www.norwichtheatre.org for tickets.
