A city record label hopes to put Norwich's up-and-coming artists on the map through a new compilation.

The release is the first for Lowell Records, which was set up by the founder of the Norwich Lanes shop of the same name last year.

Music from 11 artists will be included in the album, which aims to offer a snapshot of the city's thriving music scene.

Jack Ames, co-owner of Lowell, said: "It has been long overdue for something like this to be released.

"The scene right now is growing exponentially and it is wild that so much is happening.

"There are lots of really special bands playing in the city right now so it is great to celebrate them through this compilation."

The album is available for pre-order on Lowell Records' website and will be launched later this month.

Called The Bitter End, bands playing music from a range of genres are on offer, be it indie-folk or psychedelia. 

Artists who have contributed songs include the likes of Other Half, Kitty Perrin, Gladboy and Floral Image.

The brand has partnered with Detroit-based records company, Third Man Pressing, to press the releases, which is part-owned by the White Stripes frontman Jack White.

Mr Ames added: "I've always been interested in archiving and capturing a moment.

"Compilations can really help put bands on the map and capture what is happening in a city at a certain time.

"It really helps artists get noticed by people outside the area.

"I've lived here six years now and when I first moved it felt things had died but now there is real growth and momentum.

"A lot of the bands in the city get on really well and support each other and we are putting on as many shows with local bands as possible in the shop."
