A high-flying hairdresser has achieved his dream of opening a shop while introducing an up and coming trend to ensure it's a cut above the rest.

Ross Mathieson, who lives in Mousehold Lane with his wife and has been a barber for eight years, received the keys to his shop on March 1.

The shop, called Son of the Bear Barbershop, originates from Mr Mathieson's Scottish heritage.

The surname translates from the Gaelic meaning 'Son of the Bear'.

The 40-year-old hopes that his award-winning expertise and the introduction of a unique transplant service will help draw in the masses to his shop, located in Kett's Hill, next to the bakery.

Mr Mathieson, who is opening the shop with his best friend and senior barber Jake Swanton, said: "It's been a long term dream of mine to open a shop.

"I've been employed, self-employed and won a few competitions over the years and it all gave me the motivation to start my own brand and business.

"I want to help break the stigma around male pattern baldness some men have and the negative effects it has on their mental health.

"I think having these facilities, as well as offering old school barbering with modern men's hairdressing, will help the business stand out among the saturated market."

There will be a launch party on April 1 for people to visit the shop with official online bookings starting from April 4.

Mr Mathieson added: "There's been a few sleepless nights but it's mainly just excitement.

"We've revamped the inside, decorated it and now just getting the final touches added, so I feel the hard work is done and it's time to enjoy the journey."
