There was a lot of coverage about the awkward exchange between the actor Hugh Grant and Ashley Graham during the Oscars at the weekend.

On Sunday night, he was stopped by the presenter on the red carpet in Hollywood.

In the short conversation he was asked how he felt to appear in the Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery film.

He answered, “Well I'm barely in it, I was in it for about three seconds.”

The red carpet host then asked him what he was wearing.

Mr Grant quickly responded with, “My suit”, adding his tailor made it.

There was a lot of debate about how the actor was rude and said the interview was the most awkward since Will Smith's infamous slap of Chris Rock at the 2022 ceremony.

However, many others have spoken up in the Four Weddings and A Funeral star.

I appreciate the interview would have been tricky for Ashley Graham because film stars are usually very gushy and a bit over the top.

I am on the side of Mr Grant on this trivial debate and think he was just being a bit British in his responses, which surprised some who are used to usual Oscars coverage.

If I was ever a movie star on the red carpet, which is never going to happen, I can imagine it being a bit odd being constantly asked what I was wearing.

I am not a fashionable person but I don’t see why it is important to know what designer a film star is wearing.

I appreciate the nice outfits but if I was a big star I would not want the focus to be on what clothes I was wearing.

Surely it is more important to celebrate people’s talent and the creative skills of people who make films which bring great joy to everyone around the world.
