Multiple fire crews were called to a block of flats in Norwich city centre following reports of "billowing" smoke.
Six crews from Earlham, including an aerial ladder platform, Carrow, Sprowston and Acle attended a fire in a first-floor flat in Parmentergate Court in St Johns Street this afternoon (March 17).
The fire chief at the scene said: "Someone left a pan on the stove and went out to the shops.
"Other residents reported smoke billowing from the window. The fire service was called and has extinguished the blaze."
Police were also in attendance after receiving a call at 3.50pm.
Fire crews wore breathing apparatus and used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.
A thermal imaging camera was used to check for hot spots.
There have been no reports of any injuries and the incident is being treated as minor.
