The hunt is on to find new landlords to breathe new life into a longstanding community boozer.

Described as a "large, wet-led community pub" The Heartsease sits within the city limits just shy of the border with Thorpe St Andrew and is driven by both TV sport and pub entertainment including pool and darts.

The pub has been on the site since 1839 and has been under the same ownership since November 2012.

With 95pc of its sales from drinks, Greene King says there is potential to increase the food volume and offer a value-driven menu of pub classics with the right landlords at the helm.

The Suffolk-based pub retailer and brewer said a new operator will need to increase the operational standards of the pub and embrace the local community to ensure it is the pub of choice in the surrounding area.

Ian Mackie, Conservative Broadland district councillor for Thorpe St Andrew North West, said it's important to support pubs, but investment - and the right people at the helm - is also needed.

"You've got to use it or lose it," he said.

"The Heartsease has been a key feature in the area for many years and unfortunately we've lost a number of local public houses.

"I hope with new investment and support from the brewery - which is critical - this pub will be enhanced and remain at the heart of the community."
