Pram-pushing parents and mobility scooter users are having to take a "dangerous" detour into a busy city road because of a sinking pathway gathering with water.

With the path, found in Plumstead Road, collecting water for weeks litter including wine bottles and crisp wrappers can be found floating in the sinkhole.

Norfolk County Council say they "are aware of the issue" which is located at the traffic lights opposite the Aldi supermarket, near the Heartsease roundabout.

"It makes it very dangerous for people with mobility issues or parents and children walking along the path.

"The walls are sinking and becoming very unstable as well, which were fine around a month ago and there's now so much water it's starting to seep into the road as well.

"I've seen all sorts of rubbish floating in the water like wine bottles and food wrappers.

"Myself and other people have contacted the council but we haven't had any response or update.

"There doesn't seem to be any urgency with trying to sort it."

A county council spokeswoman said: "We're aware of the drainage issue and work is under way to find an effective solution."

Susan added: "Because of the road closures more traffic is being diverted down this road so it's making things worse.

"It's a treacherous place for anyone to walk along at the moment.

"There's a number of schools and shops nearby so the area is always bustling meaning there's multiple chances someone could get seriously hurt if they're not paying attention."
