Cast your eyes to the night sky tonight for the chance to spot the Northern Lights as weather experts predict they may be visible above the county this week.

According to data released by the Met Office, minor geomagnetic storms that allow the lights to be seen are likely over Norfolk in the coming days.

Despite being mostly cloudy overnight tonight, the skies are expected to clear in patches which might allow observers to catch a glimpse.

The natural phenomenon - scientific name aurora borealis - is a product of atmospheric interference that distorts light, with different gasses producing the spellbinding colours. 

Although visible nearly everywhere in the county, the lights are most likely to be seen in areas around the coast due to lower levels of light pollution.

Brancaster, Blakeney, Weybourne, and Attleborough are notable dark sky sites and Northern Light hotspots.
