'Let them eat cake' is a quote many attribute to Marie Antoinette and this new musical shows new layers to the 18th-century queen.

Set at a time when revolution was brewing in France, this high-octane 70-minute show in one act is packed with catchy songs and razor-sharp choreography.

Similar to musicals such as Six and Fantastically Great Woman, which also had debut tours at the Playhouse, it retells a historic tale for a 21st-century audience.

While the plot was slightly lacking, with details around the heist needing more clarity, this was made up for with the hugely talented, six-strong ensemble.

West End stars Zizi Strallen (Mary Poppins) and Renée Lamb (Six) as Antoinette and Jeanne respectively led the cast with confidence and fantastic chemistry, with nods to Wicked's Glinda and Elphaba in parts.

Both their vocals were sensational and they easily transitioned from edgy rap to emotive ballads.

Cake runs at Norwich Playhouse until April 29.
