A pensioner who was left without a TV aerial for six weeks is finally going to be able to watch her old movies again.

Doreen Vargerson, 89, had been struggling with loneliness since her television stopped receiving signal some six weeks ago.

She has lived in Horns Lane, off Ber Street, for 30 years and while she had experienced this before at the city council property, it had never been this bad.

Her family tried other means of fixing the aerial, such as getting an indoor aerial or fixing one to her window, but nothing would work and Doreen started to despair.

But daughter Teresa and Son Stephen did not give up and called the city council many times to ask about their mother's aerial.

And now, just three days after her frustration was highlighted in the Evening News, Doreen can settle in for an evening to catch up on her favourite shows.

Her daughter Teresa Chittock, 69, said: “The council came and are fitting all new cables on the aerial so at last mum is all up and running.

“I’m sure it was because of the help of Norwich Evening News.”
