Norwich Airport is preparing for a better summer of flights with TUI following last year's holiday chaos.

Last summer saw holiday nightmares for TUI customers, with many flights delayed, rediverted or cancelled with bags on runways - but the holiday company say they are "confident" this will not be repeated with added staffing.

Two flights to Mallorca and Corfu were diverted to Belfast International Airport, and a flight from Norwich to Mahon - which is located in the Spanish island of Menorca - was diverted to Aberdeen.

A flight from Dalaman in Turkey to Norwich was delayed by five hours, meaning passengers were sent to East Midlands Airport overnight after the delay went beyond Norwich Airport's opening hours.

A spokeswoman for TUI, said: "With Easter holidays having just taken place, with very few delays, we feel confident that we’ll have a great summer season.

"We have 75pc more colleagues in airports than in 2022 and have new TUI customer support teams that will be in place in all UK airports from May 2023.

"We have also increased the customer services staff in our contact centre by 75pc over the last 10 years, and we’ve increased our destination airport teams by 25pc since 2021."

Richard Pace, managing director of Norwich Airport, said: “We’re delighted to be offering such a wide range of sunshine holiday destinations.

"Our growing number of flights means that there is even more choice for travellers and we’re looking forward to a very successful year ahead.”

A twice-weekly service to Menorca and Dalaman has begun, as well as flights to Corfu, Crete, Rhodes, Ibiza and Paphos, which will all operate once a week.

In addition, TUI is offering flights to Majorca three times a week and has twice-weekly, year-round flights to Tenerife.

Earlier this year, KLM launched extra year-round flights to Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport.

Loganair operates a six-day service to Aberdeen.
