A mum-of-four has finally moved into a new house after much disappointment when she missed out on a home she felt was perfect for the needs of her children.

Kim Herbert has epilepsy and three of her children also have disabilities. Until recently they was stuck in a two-bedroom home near Anglia Square that she felt was unsuitable.

Due to the kids' health complications meaning they needed access to the toilet, but also vision problems that meant they were not able to do this safely, Kim had to carry two of her children up and down the stairs during the night to the toilet.

After six years of doing this every night for two of her children, Kim was left with back problems and told the Evening News about her issues earlier this year.

She had people come out to see if an upstairs toilet could be installed to ease the pressure on her back and help her children, but it was deemed to be unsuitable.

Now the mum is overjoyed to have moved into a three-bedroom Norwich City Council home in Mile Cross with a big garden.

Miss Herbert said: “It really looks like things are turning around for us, I am so much happier.”

The home does not yet have an upstairs toilet but with more space the kids can use a potty while she goes through the application process to have a new loo installed.

She added: “The kids are enjoying having a big garden to call their own.”

Kim is looking forward and has big future plans for the house such as a sensory room, conservatory and maybe even an extra bedroom.

But for now she is just happy to have a home that is safer and more suitable for her and her children.
