A vegan butcher's shop that opened in the city centre three months ago is hoping to raise its profile after seeing a drop in footfall.

The Little Vegan Butchers in Rose Lane, co-owned by Clare-Marie and Scott Heapy, opened in February and received great feedback for its plant-based offering.

Clare-Marie said: “We can cater for weddings, trade shows, home delivery, wholesale and even have a food truck we can take on the road.

“But we need people to use us, or they will lose us.”

The pair have been focussing on home delivery and wholesale to combat the decline in footfall, including at a popular neighbouring restaurant.

Clare-Marie said: “We are the wholesaler for Rooftop Gardens' vegan menu which is entirely made up of our products.

“We've seen so many comments saying that the restaurant has really upped their vegan menu, so that makes us feel great.”

The owners are hoping as many city folks go to their counter as they did when the butchers first opened three months ago.

Clare-Marie said: “I don’t know if more people have returned to working from home, or people are using Prince of Wales Road instead of Rose Lane.

“But we need people to know we are here and open for business.

“We have a unique selling point as there is nowhere else in the city you can get restaurant quality plant-based food that is fresh and handmade – but it’s getting people to try our food to understand how tasty it is.”

The company offers Vegan BBQ packs as well as dine-at-home options, and everything is freezable.

With the most popular product being ‘vibs’, which are vegan BBQ ribs, Clare-Marie believes that meat eaters would even love them.

She added: “We want to remind people to shop small and local – you can do a whole week's shop with us.”
