A popular city centre venue has applied for permission to offer new attractions ahead of a planned expansion.

Gonzo's Tea Room in London Street is looking to create a space to host live music and the brand's pizza business Voodoo Daddy's, which is currently based in Timberhill.

The news comes after plans were lodged for the bar and nightclub to expand into the former Betfred site next door.

If approved, the new license application would grant Gonzo's permission to serve pizza and host live music in the ground floor and basement of the building.

Documents submitted to Norwich City Council by business owner Brad Baxter state: "This is a thriving bar and restaurant situated with ground floor entrance.

"The purpose of this new licence will be to create a space for the brand's pizza business and for a range of music performances, those which have been operating at the 'sister' premises, Voodoo Daddy's.

"This operation will occupy the ground floor and basement in the building with a separate entrance to the left of that used for the remainder of the building."

Capacity for the area will be determined by Norfolk Fire & Rescue Service once building and redevelopment work has been completed.

The bar, which already features a rooftop terrace, lounge and nightclub, has become a popular destination for city folk - with its club Gonzo's Two Room even being recognised as a 'dance destination' in top music magazine DJ Mag last year.

The publication claimed the establishment had "reignited club culture on the east coast" and praised it for its "on-the-pulse line-ups, great sound and inclusive atmosphere".

The Brix and Bones open-fire restaurant is also located above Gonzo's Tea Room, with both owned by siblings Brad and Mike Baxter.

The eatery opened in early 2022 and was added to The Good Food Guide last summer before being added to a round-up of its under-the-radar food venues in the UK for 2023.
