A shoplifter assaulted an onlooker when confronted for stealing from a city supermarket.
Police were called to the Sainsbury's Local in St Stephens Street at 8.27am on Thursday (June 15) to reports that a man had tried to steal items from the shelves.

After being confronted by a man in the store, the suspect threw the items at the victim and fled the scene.
No injuries were reported and enquiries to locate the man are currently ongoing.
