A busy city roundabout will see more than four weeks of disruption for roadwork to take place.

Roadworks will commence on July 3 until August 11 in Ketts Hill from its junction with Gurney Road for 30m eastwards.

Other roads that will be affected include Gurney Road from its junction with Heathgate and its junction with Ketts Hill roundabout.

Signs will indicate when the roads are closed during the 40 days of roadworks.

Alternative routes will be via Mousehold Lane, Sprowston Road Magdalen Road, Bull Close Road, Charlton Road, and Barrack Street.

The work will be to improve safety at the roundabout which has seen a number of cycling-related accidents in recent memory.

Council workers will re-shape the centre of the roundabout along with the approaches and exits with an aim to reduce vehicle speeds and improve visibility for all users.

The traffic islands will be made wider which will also help people wishing to cross the surrounding roads.

The announcement comes following a proposed £64,000 scheme to build a new bus and cycle lane on the road which council bosses have said could shave up to 80 seconds off bus journeys at peak times.

A spokesman for Ketts Hill Bakery, located in Ketts Hill, previously said they feared the change would be "the final straw" in closing their business, claiming staff and customers would be left with nowhere to park as a result of the new bus lane.
