A plea for visitors to take their rubbish away has been made as littering and fly-tipping have left folk living on the outskirts of the city feeling furious.

Bawburgh attracts a plethora of people who want to sit next to the River Yare and enjoy the countryside without the hustle and bustle of coastal attractions.

However, as temperatures rise, so have those of the folk living nearby as rubbish and debris are left behind on the village green when the sun eventually sets.

Victoria Smillie, who lives in the area, said: "The moment we get lovely weather, our village green near the riverbank is full of people littering.

"It varies enormously from left behind towels, socks and even a shopping trolley which had been disposed of in the river.

"There are also occasionally burn marks on the green which are from portable BBQs that people bring along.

"It ruins the look of the area and there are far too many who think the rubbish fairy will magic their debris away."

Staff from The Kings Head pub have been out every night with bin bags clearing the rubbish.

The village has also had several instances of fly-tipping in recent months and the crowds for the Royal Norfolk Show are also set to arrive in the area next week.

Victoria added: "It's not that people aren't welcome, but we'd just like the area to be kept tidy afterwards.

"I'm disappointed by it all.

"It's lovely that people can take advantage of the river, but as a community, we don't want to see the area left in disarray.

"There are bins around as well but for some reason, people just choose not to use them sometimes which I find really strange.

"It's not a good advert for the area if it continues."
