The boss of a kebab shop said he was "confident things would improve" after earning a three-star food hygiene rating in a recent re-inspection.

Carlos Gonul, 34, who owns Britannia Kebab and Fish Bar responded to counteract the one-star hygiene rating the business received in March.

After a re-visit by Norwich City Council food and safety officers on May 19, the shop has now been updated with a three-star hygiene rating.

Mr Gonul said: "The last inspection was the only time I've received a one-star rating, so I was confident things would improve - it was just a blip.

"Fridge temperatures were a bit low so we re-gassed everything just to make sure they were in line with what was needed.

"I also updated the safer food pack which was one of the main issues last time."

The Food inspection officer at Norwich City Council said they were: "Pleased to see the safer food better business pack had been completed and the daily diary was up-to-date.

"I was able to give the premasis a much better 'confidence in management' score.

"The can opener blade was also cleaned and the countertop chiller was able to hold foods at below 8C."

Mr Gonul is looking to improve on the business' rating by the time the next inspection rolls around, adding: "Things will be even better next time too.

"I've been in the business for more than 20 years now and know what what we're doing here."

The hygiene officer did admit however there were still "a number of issues outstanding from the original inspection that will need to be addressed in order to improve the rating score further."

Some of these issues included "the hot holding cabinet above the fryer still recording a temperature below 63C" and "the light in the walk-in freezer still not working."
